The St John's/Navy Croquet Match is Saturday, April 22! FYI- this year, they are selling tickets (now sold out) and capping the attendance at 5000. I guess it got too big!
This was always our biggest event at our consignment shop downtown- we sold a ton of hard to find or vintage Lilly (You Gotta Regatta and First Impression were two prints that always sold immediately), as well as beautiful vintage dresses and accessories.
Historically, the Navy side tends to dress more "preppy"- either Lilly/Jacks or 50s/60s Jackie O inspired looks. Think seersucker, cotton poplins, lace, eyelet, bright florals, stripes, pearls, big hats, and wedges.
The St. John's side gravitates towards a romantic and vintage look- Edwardian lawn dresses with parasols, 20s flapper shifts with long strands of pearls, and 30s bias-cut gowns. I'm excited to do a separate post for this- as well as accessories!
Of course, there's lots of cross pollination between the two sides!
To shop small/local, I'd hit up The Pink Crab, Kokopelli, The Lucky Knot, Lilac Bijoux, and One Petticoat Lane (consignment.) In DC- Ann Mashburn and Tuckernuck. And for men- Mr Scherfel and Capital Customs Clothiers.
